Flying Time Formula

Arrival on Previous day
(Add 2400hrs to Departure time)
A passenger is flying from Nadi to Los Angeles and his flight Departs from Nadi on local time 0100 and day of travelling is Saturday and he arrived in Los Angeles on local time 1630 Friday.
if we want to find the travelling time, deducting the departure time from arrival time is wrong because of the time difference between America and Fiji then how can we find the flying time,
There are three steps to find the flying time between Nadi to Los Angeles.
Step 01
Determine the local applicable at points of departure and arrivals
In this case:
- Nadi - Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +1200 (GMT +1200)
- Los Angeles- Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) -0700 (GMT-0700)
Now move to
Step 02
Convert both departure and arrival times to GMT
To do this, deduct the figure obtained in step 01 from the local time when it is ahead of GMT (GMT+) or add the figure obtained in step 01 from the local time when it is behind GMT (GMT-).
Step 03
Now that common time denominator is Available, now you can use usual calculation for Departure and arrival time and the result will be the total flying time.
Now we can calculate the flying time between Nadi and Los Angele.
- Step 01:
Write the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) of two cities
Nadi = + 1200GMT
Los Angeles = - 0700GMT
Step 01 completed
- Step 02:
local Departing time from Nadi is Saturday (SAT) 1300, so Departing in GMT
- Calculation 01:
Here we have deduct +0600 from Nadi local time, to calculate the GMT.
So the calculation is 0100-1200 +2400 = 1300 So then Departure time is in GMT 1300
“(Here we had to add an additional 2400hrs to Departure time because we arrived by a Day delayed)”
Los Angeles local arrival time is Friday (FRI) 1630, So arrival in GMT
- Calculation 02:
Here we have to Add -0700 to Nadi local time, to calculate the GMT.
So The calculation is 1630 + 0700= 2330 so then Arrival time is in GMT 0630
- Step 03
Now we have both departing and the arrival time in GMT s So we can do normal calculations for total flying time.
Deduct Arrival Time From Departing time. The difference will be the total flying time between Nadi to Los Angeles
- Calculation 03:
2330-1300 =1030 So the total flying time between Nadi to Los Angeles is 3650 hours
- So the total Flying between Nadi to Los Angeles is 10hours and 30 minutes
